To: ham-digital@ucsd.edu The Heathkit WWV clock has a serial output. I'd like to know how I can hook this up to Linux so other machines can set their clocks accurately (ie using rdate or xntp over packet or on the local ethernet LAN). I have code for something called "DCF" which is a German radio. Is this compatible or do I need something else? If the DCF stuff is compatible, I see that the Linux patches are quite old, and the serial port line discipline code has changed drastically, has anyone updated the patches? -- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BogoMIPS Research Labs -- bogosity research & simulation -- VE7JPM -- jmorriso@bogomips.ee.ubc.ca ve7jpm@ve7jpm.ampr.org jmorriso@rflab.ee.ubc.ca --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 Jul 1994 19:02:58 GMT From: ihnp4.ucsd.edu!usc!nic-nac.CSU.net!charnel.ecst.csuchico.edu!yeshua.marcam.com!news.kei.com!babbage.ece.uc.edu!meaddata!news.ans.net!upsnews.ups.com!casey!nrd1pxm@network.ucsd.edu Subject: Newbie needs help!!!!!!!! (Apologies for following up to a follow-up when really wanting to follow-up the original, but the original never made it here!) The point made above is a good one, and one I have been reflecting on myself, following various happenings here in the UK. Throw this thought into the metling pot: Has the advent of easy dial international phone calls - in my time as a licensed amateur - made hf ssb dx working a thing of the past? I am slowly tending towards the idea that we would be making a mistake trying to emulate the internet; but should perhaps emphasise a little more the "radio" part of amateur radio. Comments? Thoughts? Wrong group? :-) (You don't know me, so let me give you a little of my background, if it helps to put my comments in context: professionally I work in the networking industry, writing operating systems et al for embedded processors in bridges and routers. I am on the internet from work and home, so I don't think I am a luddite. On the amateur radio side, I was first licensed in 1972 and currently operate both vhf packet - only AX25 at the moment, but that's about to change - and hf cw, and see no great conflict in enjoying such different aspects of our wonderful hobby.) 73, John, GM4ANB -- John Morris email: John@kirsta.demon.co.uk AX25: GM4ANB@GB7EDN.#77.GBR.EU ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 Jul 1994 17:52:13 +0000 From: ihnp4.ucsd.edu!usc!howland.reston.ans.net!pipex!demon!llondel.demon.co.uk!dave@network.ucsd.edu To: ham-digital@ucsd.edu References <2vmupg$d23@herald.indirect.com>,, <300tda$a6u@signal.dra.hmg.gb>, Subject : Re: How do I find my IP addr?
